Wimax, 4G, NGN, what does this all mean?
What is coming to cellular service of the next few years? Sprint is leading the way with Wimax a 4G (4th generation) service to compliment EVDO (a late 3G service) to give faster and more economical service to its customers. With it, of course will be a better system to monitor data useage and pricing packages, but “all you can eat data” was never a real profitable venture to begin with. This is of course a piviotal step in the development of a data infrastructure. But wimax is just the beginning for 4G. Wimax is advertised to have speeds of 2Mbps to 4Mbps, but a recent tech demonstration showed that 4G technology can be pushed to the 1Gpbs-2.5Gpbs range. And I bet you thought your EVDO was an unreal connection! Good things are coming to the cellular market, and data will be cheap and plentiful. With 4g networks replaceing the existing 3g stations over the next year or 2, the technology for pdaphones and UMPC’s may jump as well, as being mobile might just have as much or more connectivity as being plugged into a wall.
