Android OS Impressions

So the other day I had a remarkable experience I figured I should share. While I’m certainly not new to crashing my phones OS, this was different. I manged to someone have the phone crash while running Marketplace. It crashed so badly that it actually hung with the soft button lights all on, wouldn’t display anything, wouldn’t even turn off. After about 30 seconds as I was about to consider pulling the battery cover to yank it I saw the darnest thing. It fixed itself. Now of course it’s quite possible that the issue corrected itself, it brings up the point of watchdog timers and polling the state. I imagined what occured was a watchdog saw that the phone had stopped responding, and terminated the errant process thus correcting the issue. Why this kind of checking is not done on all devices is beyond me. Food for thought.

In other news, I’m going to start developing some Android apps I’ve decided. I like the OS, it’s going in the right direction as far as I’m concerned and I can’t wait to see what I might do with it.
