WM5 vs Palm OS, Palm OS wins a big blow (to me)

I can’t believe this one, and it hurts me to say it. Palm OS has recently had a driver written (Treo 680) which supports SDHC on it and any device that driver is “transplanted”. WM5 it appears, is without that driver, at least for now. I’ve looked all over and it would appear Microsoft has not implemented such a driver (yet). So at least for now, wm5 is limited to 4gb max while palm can hit 32gb (with a hack). Those that think wm5 has registry entries for “sdhc”, I should point out SDHC stands for something else in driver terms… That’s still legacy SD support.

1: Good luck finding (or affording) a 32 gig SD card.
2: Even with a 32 gig SD card, you still cant multitask. When palm makes a driver to fix that, then you may have something.

It seems to me that it would be easier for M$ to fix thier SD driver than it would be for palm to fix thier operating system.

With 4 gig SD cards becoming an affordable reality, and 8 gig being the current off the shelf limit in SD technology, there isnt much advantage to having this driver. Although this shows some foresight on palms part, a rare thing indeed for palm, Im sure that M$ will update thier driver as soon as the SD tecnology becomes profitable for them.

Leave it to Spy to slurp up some more M$ goo. 8GB SD cards are very inexpensive already. I’m wondering if she uses Palm’s threaded SMS on her WM$ device. I bet she does. lol

I would say it’s a matter of opinion if the 8gb sd cards are expensive now or not. Everyone will have their own thoughts on that, but they are about $140 currently. I’m certain he is correct about the fact microsoft will fix this fairly soon, however it was mainly a point that yes, palm did in fact have some forsight on this one which I personally was impressed with.

Normally we see palm meet the current specs of technology, rarely have we seen them jump forward to the new stuff faster than others. This should be applauded highly when they get it right, and that’s why I put this up.

8GB, Class 4 SDHC cards are already under $100. My can’t Microsoft figure out something that little old Palm already did months ago?
