Treo 700p ESN Change - wrong ESN shows up

Hello Folks,

This is obviously old business, but I'm trying to change Sprint 700p to Verizon. Dutifully follow the instructions, however when I check the ESN after the change it's not the one I put into the NV Backup file. Not even close. I can however, restore the old Sprint ESN to the phone using the same procedure and the original NV Backup file (which I thankfully saved). I edited the original NV Backup file using a hex editor, and found all the right things at the right places. Tried this many times with no success.

Any advice/thoughts?
