Hardware used for backing up Rom's / loading linux

Post by revelingjohn » Thu Mar 01, 2007 1:06 pm

I'm having trouble locating info about the HARDWARE used in the ROM loading process. I've gathered that an SD card can be used for this process, but the pictures here( http://www.grack.com/programming/misc/TreoLinux.html ), seem to indicate some other approach. Image I mean, what's the little black box attached to the bottom of that treo? If there are threads already addressing this question, maybe they should be stickied, because I haven't been able to find them. Thanx, guys

There is no special hardware involved. The black box look'n deal at the bottom of the phone is simply the hot sync cable that comes with the phone. A rom tool application has been developed that allows you to access the phones bootloader using this standard (USB) cable.
