DUN for Verizon 700p?

Post by sck_nogas » Wed Sep 06, 2006 12:58 pm

I just got my Verizon 650 swapped out via an insurance claim. (Don't drop the Treo in water) But, they only ship the 700p.

Faster Data Network
Better Camera
More Memory
Updated Bluetooth

Hmm, sounds like a no brainer. So, I approved the upgrade, and got the new phone today. Started syncing my apps, and tools with few problems....

Until Dial Up Networking (DUN) testing. Well, Verizon is ______ again. There's no DUN option in the bluetooth window. Oh, well time to re-install from the SD card. Nope, it dies with "The application cannot be launched because it is missing localization information" Hmmm, never seen that before, maybe it's an old version! So I've pulled the most recent Verizon 650 Treo BTManager from Shadowmite and installed that one but it dies the same way.

So, I've looked around and not found any 700p DUN tweaks on the net that work. So, has anyone got a working DUN

Did you ever find out if it was possible to use Shadowmites DUN on your 700P? I've considered the switch, but don't want to buy into the DATA plans. I'd rather just use Dial-up. Please let me know.

Sweet, so you're saying if you have the optional insurance through VZW that they'll replace your 650 with a 700? I've been debating what to do with my 650 and was contemplating getting it replaced under insurance since it has some antenna problems and a bad connector on the bottom for the hotsync cable, then I was going to sell the replacement on ebay and use my ne2 and new agreement toward a 700, but from what you just said, it sounds like I may not have to go through all that.

Just be careful.

I had a $50 deductable to pay before I got the 700P good-ness. Plus, they wanted the 650 back, so I shipped old'soggy back to them. But, I did get an new holster for my Treo! (butt ugly) and a new mono wired headset. It's part of the "package"

Well that's not a problem, either way. Especially since I've been looking at a price of $250-299 for the upgrade cost anyway, minus what I would get for selling my 650 for.
That is just awesome news for me, since I KNOW that the techs aren't going to replace the connector on the bottom of my phone and with the signal problems that have been progressively getting worse, it's insurance or nothing. $50 for an upgrade sounds great to me. Thanks for the info.

In fact..... maybe I could do both. Do the insurance upgrade to get a 700 for $50 and use my ne2 and rebate with coupon to buy a new treo as well and sell one of the 2 of them. That might work out nicely. Guess I'll have to try the insurance first. If they don't give me a 700, I'm not any worse off that what I was planning anyway.

What's the number that you called for the insurance claim?

did not get 700p for a 650 ins. claim

Post by CrazyC » Mon Jan 01, 2007 4:19 pm

Just a bit of info for anyone that wants to try the insurance replacement to get their 650 upgraded to a 700p. I just put in a claim a week ago and I did not get a 700p sent to me. I did however get a brand spankin' new 650 which I'm going to sell on Ebay and I did still upgrade to the 700p through VZW with my NE2 and $100 mail in rebate.
I'm not unhappy with the outcome, just not as happy as I could have been.
But as I said above, the route that I took is the route that I was planning on before I read sck_nogas' message anyway.
